About Us:
What is New Jordans?
On 11 March 2005 Jordans Quaker Meeting House suffered a severe fire that badly damaged the warden's flat and the Meeting House. Jordans Quakers decided that something good should come out of this catastrophe and conceived the vision that was to become New Jordans. They saw it as nurturing ideas and actions that interpret and manifest Quaker values for the 21st century in harmony with kindred spirits from wherever they come.
They presented their ideas to the Chilterns Area Quaker Meeting and the Area Meeting discerned that they should embrace this vision and give it their financial and spiritual support.
The New Jordans Programme provides initiatives to bring the values and ideas of Quakers to everyone and welcomes all.
The Programme has a series of lectures associated with it entitled "Challenges for Our Time".
These lectures have covered issues such as what we have to offer the 21st century, prison reform, forgiveness, sustainable living and inter-faith understanding.
Jordans has been associated with the Quaker movement for 350 years. The Meeting House was built in 1688 when Friends were first allowed to worship openly. Jordans has been described as standing “...for the spiritual in the midst of the material, for the eternal in the material, for the eternal in the midst of the transient.”
The New Jordans Programme features a new information centre at the Meeting House.
